Make the greatest possible act of generosity by giving a gift of life. Consider becoming an organ donor now - don't put it off for another day. Get a donor card, sign it and have your next-of-kin sign it.

Organ failure is a devastating event in the lives of people. It occurs without regard for either age or circumstance. Young parents, children, the old or the young, may be asked to face this challenge. For many, organ donation can be the means to regain normal life and for others it is a matter of life or death.

If asked, most people would say they would be happy to have their organs donated after death, but that is not enough, you must take action now. Make a commitment - it's just a few simple steps. You can either request a donor card online or contact the Irish Kidney Association to request a donor card in one of the following ways:

Alternatively, you can collect a donor card at your local pharmacy.

You can also sign the back of your driving licence to indicate your wishes.

Most importantly, discuss your wishes with your next-of-kin.

Signing your intention to become an organ donor sounds like a small step but it will, forevermore, redefine your life as both humanitarian and heroic.
